Love Note: UR Choosing to See Uncertainty as Opportunity

Luke 8:43-48

43-45 In the crowd that day there was a woman who for twelve years had been afflicted with hemorrhages. She had spent every penny she had on doctors but not one had been able to help her. She slipped in from behind and touched the edge of Jesus’ robe. At that very moment her hemorrhaging stopped. Jesus said, “Who touched me?”

When no one stepped forward, Peter said, “But Master, we’ve got crowds of people on our hands. Dozens have touched you.”

46 Jesus insisted, “Someone touched me. I felt power discharging from me.”

47 When the woman realized that she couldn’t remain hidden, she knelt trembling before him. In front of all the people, she blurted out her story—why she touched him and how at that same moment she was healed.

48 Jesus said, “Daughter, you took a risk trusting me, and now you’re healed and whole. Live well, live blessed!”

The woman referenced in our scripture did not let the uncertainty of her affliction cause her to live insecure and anxious. Instead, her desperation for healing led her to take a risk and try Jesus for herself. When she touched Jesus' robe, she was instantly healed by His transformative power. Not only did her pursuit of Jesus open the door for her to receive healing, but it gave her the opportunity to be found by Jesus even in the midst of a crowd. Her uncertainty created an opportunity for her to exercise her faith, experience Jesus for herself, and share a testimony that could no longer be hidden.

Sometimes the uncertainty of our situations make it even harder for us to heal because we let insecurity and anxiety consume us. We try everything, and yet we still find ourselves uncertain and unhealed. I am sure the uncertainty of the woman's condition made her fearful, but she did not let her fear override her faith. She took advantage of the opportunity to trust Jesus to make her whole, and she was healed. Let us be inspired by her testimony and respond to uncertainty with faith that creates opportunities to trust God with our uncertainties. When we pursue Him first for what we need, He will find us, speak to us, heal us, lift us up, meet us right where we are, and give us a new name.

Lord, I will have faith and take the risk to trust you with all of me. I lay my uncertainties, brokenness, and emptiness at your feet. I know that my faith will lead to healing and wholeness that can only be found in You. One touch from You is all I need. Help me to live well and live blessed. In Jesus Name, Amen.
